Beautiful Man I

2008, Colorado Yule marble. 14"x11"x6"

After focusing so much on the feminine form, some balance. The differences in the male and female forms are so well known by us all, but to execute them in sculpture is, to me, fascinating. Making this piece was a deliberate act of choosing hope over bitterness, an act of defiance when I was sorely tempted to curl up into a ball and give up. That is where the strength and beauty of this piece comes from.
