Eleni,

2018, 70cm x 29 x 30cm, Thassos marble

Eleni was carved in 2018 during a glorious summer of carving in Greece. She is made of Thassos marble and was inspired by a wonderful friend there. My original plan had her hair cascading in front, but I changed the design to expose the lovely line of her neck. Another change was caused by the discovery of an inclusion in the stone, exactly on her right eye. I was able to move everything slightly to avoid the flaw. The addition of the lingerie to an otherwise classic nude was a twist and delightful to execute. The pose feels to me like a private moment- perhaps simply enjoying the pleasure of being a woman.
