Touch, 2018

12"x8"x8"

"Touch" is a study of one of the most beautiful and amazing things in all of creation - the human hand. Touch allows us to connect with others and the world around us, to receive and give love. Emerging from pristine white marble, this hand is modeled on my own. I often do this because, well, the model is free and always available.

For some time I have been interested in Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken things with precious metals to enhance and celebrate scars, rather than hide them. This piece gave me the chance to try it out. I'm happy with the results, especially the way the gold circling the fourth finger echoes a wedding band.
